REED to LEARN, founded by Sarah Akins Reed, is a professional, multi-sensory Private Tutoring Service proudly offering assistance to clients throughout the Memphis area. The goal of REED to LEARN is to, not only, meet the student's needs but also exceed your expectations for your child.
WHO WE ARE
Sarah graduated from The University of Mississippi receiving a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education. She obtained a Master Degree in Education with a Reading Specialist major from Christian Brothers University. In addition, she has received over two hundred hours of training in Orton Gillingham and Slingerland and began teaching third grade for three years at The Bodine School. Most recently Sarah was the Educational Support Service teacher at Briarcrest Christian School with emphasis in teaching reading and math to second and third grade students.
With ten years of teaching experience in Mississippi public schools, Emmanuel United Methodist Kindergarten, The Bodine School, and Briarcrest Christian School, Sarah has decided to leave the classroom and establish REED to LEARN. Because of her passion for teaching children and a desire to work with them on a more individualized level, she believes she can better serve students through REED to LEARN. Her past teaching experiences, combined with daily challenges and rewards received from her students, qualifies her to help your child obtain the assurance he or she needs to become a confident student!

Multi-sensory tutoring is an approach to reading instruction which connects all of the senses at the same time. There are three modalities of learning: VISUAL, AUDITORY, AND KINESTHETIC. Multi-sensory tutoring focuses on READING, WRITING, and SPELLING. It is a structured program geared toward phonological awareness, decoding, blending, encoding, spelling rules, comprehension, and fluency.
